In my last post, I talked about a possible journey around Japan, sticking as close to the coast as possible. This ends up taking around 28 days, which is more than most people can dedicate to silly train adventures.

A few months ago, I was looking wistfully at a railway map of Kyushu, when I realised just how many railway lines there were near to the coast. This got me wondering: what would it take to circumnavigate Japan by rail? That is to say, do a loop around Japan, taking all of the rail lines closest to the sea.
